Kyrgyz FM Kazakbaev, U.S. Ambassador Donald Lu meet via videoconference

Bishkek, Dec. 4, 2020. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev held on Thursday a virtual meeting with U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Donald Lu, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on developments in the domestic political situation in Kyrgyzstan and the United States.
The Kyrgyz side noted the importance of balanced statements from the U.S. Embassy regarding events in the country.
The parties also discussed issues of economic cooperation, increasing bilateral trade turnover.
The Central Asian Trade Forum, organized by the U.S. Embassy in November 2020, was noted in a positive manner.
Minister Kazakbaev expressed gratitude to the U.S. side for the important technical assistance to hospitals in cities of Bishkek and Osh, Chui Oblast in the treatment of patients with COVID-19, as well as, in general, for humanitarian assistance during the pandemic.
During the virtual meeting, the sides also touched upon the cooperation issues in combating corruption, as well as in combating crime. An understanding was reached on the need to work together to implement radical reforms in the country, aimed at further developing the inclusiveness of the political system, strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.
The minister and the ambassador expressed readiness for regular working contacts in order to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
