VP: Iran wants to expand contacts with South American countries

First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi said one of the priorities of Iran’s foreign policy is expanding ties with Latin American and Caribbean countries.

According to the Presidential Office Website, Davoudi said this in a press conference with the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and Grenadines Ralph E. Gonsalves at the end of his visit to Iran.
Davoudi told reporters although St. Vincent is a small country, 96 percent of its population are literate and influential in the Caribbean region.
He said during the visit, the two sides had positive negotiations with good results. He underlined that considering decisive role of the nation and the influence f St. Vincent prime minister in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, Iran has decided to establish relations with the country.
Referring to construction of an international airport in St. Vincent , the first VP expressed Iran’s readiness to help in construction operation and said that Iran has presented a great deal of technical and engineering services in Latin America, especially in Venezuela, so it has the ability to present any kind of cooperation in this concern.
Prime Minister Gonsalves, for his part, said the aim of his visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran was strengthening and promoting ties and said his country is the eighth state in the Caribbean which has established ties with Iran.
He called his talks with Iranian senior officials, especially President Ahmadinejad "positive" and called for developing bilateral relations in all fields.
