Kyrgyzstan to build several agro-logistics centers for dev’t of Almaty – Bishkek economic corridor

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2020. /Kabar/. Within the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (ABEC), with the support of the Asian Development Bank, work is in progress on construction of 2 wholesale agricultural markets and 4 agro-logistics centers in regions of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Economy Ministry said. Together with the Asian Development Bank and representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Finance, governors, ADB representatives, Agrifood Consulting International and representatives of the private sector are working on the implementation of the Project on preparation of a modern wholesale market for agricultural products and agro-logistics. The project aimed at increasing the export potential of agricultural products by creating large-scale 2 wholesale agricultural markets and 4 agro-logistics centers in regions of Kyrgyzstan. As a result, market demand will increase, promoting production growth and stimulating product quality, which will increase income of small and medium producers in the region, farmers' organizations and agricultural cooperatives. Processing, sorting and packaging of agricultural products will be organized in agro-logistics centers. Construction of a wholesale and agricultural market is planned in Kara-Su region of Osh Oblast and Ysyk-Ata region of Chui Oblast. Construction of four agro-logistics centers is planned in Karakol town, Issyk-Kul Oblast, in Suzak region of Dzhalal-Abad Oblast, in Tokmok town of Chui oblast and in Nookat region of Osh Oblast. A video conference was held on Oct. 22 to discuss the Feasibility Study Project with the participation of the Asian Development Bank, Agrifood Consulting International and interested ministries and departments.
