PACE SPRING SESSION KICKS OFF

Strasbourg, April 27 (AzerTAc). Spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has started today.
Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation to PACE led by Samad Seyidov is in Strasbourg to attend the event.
Opening the session, PACE President Lluis Maria de Puig spoke of the global financial crisis and its consequences, G20 London summit on the crisis, NATO summit and other issues.
Parliamentarians decided to discuss marking the CoE`S 60th anniversary, protection of human rights, election of judges to the European Court of Human Rights, Serbia`s honoring of its CoE obligations and commitments, Georgia-Russia relationship, situation of female prisoners and other issues.
During the session, parliamentarians were briefed on the recent referendum held in Azerbaijan to make amendments and supplements to the Constitution.
Pedro Agramunt Font de Mora (Spain), Movlud Cavusoglu (Turkey) and Mike Hancock (Great Britain) said the referendum demonstrated the will of the Azerbaijani people.
They noted the amendments and supplements will contribute to promoting democracy in the country.
