Iran,Afghanistan call for development of land and air transportation

Afghanistan minister of Transportation in a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Kabul called for development of land and air transportation between the two countries to expand trade and ties.

According to sources in Iran’s embassy in Kabul, Hamidollah Farouqi called for expansion of cooperation in the field of road transportation as well as increasing flights between the two countries.
He also asked for using facilities in the Chahbahar Free Trade Zone and transiting goods from Iran to Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries by Afghan businessmen.
The two sides also agreed to remove obstacles in the way of developing ties by establishing a bilateral joint committee.
Following increased insecurity in Pakistan and imposing limitations by Islamabad on Afghanistan businessmen for transiting goods from Karachi Port to Afghanistan, they have decided to use Iran’s installations in Chahbahar Port.
Iran’s Customs reports indicate that trade exchange volume between Iran and Afghanistan increased by 25 percent last year.
