Iran-Russia ties not against any third party: State Duma official

A member of Russian State Duma said on Saturday that Tehran-Moscow cooperation is not against any third party.

Talking to IRNA, Mikhail Nenashev, deputy State Duma Commission for defense affairs said the two countries enjoy longstanding friendly relations.

He announced Moscow’s readiness to further boost all-out cooperation, particularly in technical, military and security fields, with Iran.

Since both Russia and the Islamic Republic enjoy vast interests in the region, the two sides should promote cooperation and interaction, he added.

He reiterated that cooperation would strengthen the two states’ position in the region.

Denouncing efforts made by Washington to have active presence in Central Asia and the Caucasus, Nenashev stressed that the US presence in the region would intensify regional tension.

He also condemned the approach of the US and its allies to resolve international issues by use of force, saying Iran-Russia cooperation would lead to establishment of regional stability.

Voicing Moscow’s opposition to the NATO’s plan to hold military exercises in Georgia from May 6 to June 1, the Russian parliamentarian predicted that the move would escalate tension in the region.
