PM Meets Patriarch Mar Louis Raphael I Sacco

Baghdad (NINA) - Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi affirmed that the government is ready to provide assistance to Christians and solve their problems. The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement, which the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) received a copy of it, that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi received today, Sunday, Patriarch Mar Louis Raphael I Sacco, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch, and a number of bishops.” Sacco pointed to "Al-Kadhimi's success in his clear handling of important files," expressing his hope that "this approach will continue, which meets the aspirations of the people, and enables it to address many of the challenges facing the country." He added, "The Church supports Al-Kadhimi's steps towards achieving security and stability for the whole of Iraq," noting that "Christians are proud of their Iraqi identity, and they feel more reassured, in light of the serious handling of Al-Kadhimi’s government with the Christian file, and there are a large number of them wanting to return to Iraq." Al-Kadhimi welcomed Patriarch Saint Louis Sacco and his accompanying delegation, and affirmed that "Iraq is the country of everyone, and that Christians are the original people of the country, and there is no difference between the people of the same country, as everyone is a partner in building the future of Iraq." He added, "My door is open to all Iraqis, and we are serious about providing assistance to our Christian families and solving their problems. We are pleased that Christians will return to Iraq and contribute to its reconstruction. Iraqis, with all their sects, are yearning for a new Iraq that believes in peace and rejects violence." / End
