European Air Bridge With Iraq To Send Basic Relief Materials

Baghdad (NINA) - The European Union announced the establishment of an air bridge with Iraq, through which 27 tons of basic relief materials were transported. "A private plane chartered from the European Union arrived yesterday in Baghdad, carrying 27 tons of basic relief materials for UNICEF," the union said in a statement, received by the Iraqi National News Agency (NINA), indicating that "the plane that took off from the French city of Lyon and landed in Baghdad International Airport transported educational equipment and materials for children from vulnerable groups, obtained with the support of the governments of Germany and the Netherlands, and also transferred personal protection equipment (PPE) to health sector workers obtained with the support of the Government of Japan. European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarzic, said that "The European Union has set up a humanitarian airlift to Iraq to ensure that basic supplies reach vulnerable children and front-line workers from health personnel, in these difficult times." / End
