President To Iranian FM Zarif: Iraq Attaches Importance To Protect Its Sovereignty And Cooperates In The Framework Of Respect And Non-Interference In Internal Affairs.

Baghdad / NINA /- President of the Republic, Barham Salih, affirmed that Iraq attaches importance to protecting its sovereignty and security and cooperates in the framework of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. The office of the President of the Republic said in a statement that the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) received a copy of it that "today, Sunday, at the Baghdad Palace, President of the Republic Barham Salih received the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and his accompanying delegation." Salih stressed the depth of historical ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the necessity to expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields," stressing "Iraq’s keenness to be a factor of stability and center for convergence of common interests of the countries of the region and to establish peace and regional security." He added that "the region needs to build balanced relations, mutual understanding, coordination and a clear vision to reach radical solutions to crises and tensions by relying on constructive and frank dialogue between all international parties." The President of the Republic stressed that "Iraq attaches importance to protecting its sovereignty, security and stability and cooperates with allies and friends in the framework of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs," praising "Iran's positions and support for Iraq, especially in the area of combating terrorism and confronting ISIS gangs." In turn, Zarif conveyed the greetings of President Rouhani and the Iranian leadership to President Salih and their wishes for the Iraqi people with greater prosperity. Zarif expressed his country's desire "to expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation and coordination, and its support for Iraq in various levels," noting "the importance of strengthening relations between countries of the region in order to support stability and continue to combat terrorism."
