Japan's media highlights Vietnamese Party leader's visit

Tokyo (VNA) - The Japanese media has devoted remarkable coverage of the activities of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh during his official visit to Japan.

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation NHK on April 20 cited the Japan-Vietnam joint
statement on the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia that
during their talks in Tokyo on April 20, the two leaders called for
enhancement of bilateral economic cooperation and cultural exchanges through the
annual exchange of high-level delegations' visits.

The Kyodo News Agency quoted Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso at a press briefing
held on April 20 after his talks with Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc
Manh as saying that the two leaders have agreed to develop the strategic
partnership between Japan and Vietnam for peace and prosperity in Asia . PM
Aso affirmed Japan 's continued assistance to Vietnam 's economic development.


Kyodo News reported the two leaders reached consensus on strengthening efforts to
effectively use the official development assistance (ODA) capital and eradicate
corruption.

The news agency also stressed the two leaders' agreement to soon implement the
economic partnership agreement (EPA) that was signed at the end of last year.

On April 22, the Japanese Communist Party (JCP)'s daily Akahata published an
illustrated report on the meeting between Party General Secretary Manh and JCP
Chairman Kazuo Shii, quoting Chairman Shii's praise of the two Parties'
relationship and his hope for the further development of this relationship.

In their April 21 issue, the dailies Yomiuri and Sankei highlighted the two
countries' leaders' unanimity on the importance of a nuclear free Korean peninsula
during their meeting in Tokyo .

They reported that General Secretary Manh had expressed his hope for an early
resumption of the six-party talks on the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.


One of Japan 's most prestigious English-language dailies, the Japan Times on
April 21 carried photos and reports on the talks between Party General Secretary
Manh and PM Aso.-Enditem
