NSW man dies walking Kokoda Track

A 26-year-old NSW man has become the second Australian to die while walking the
Kokoda Track in a week.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed the man died on
Wednesday in Papua New Guinea.
"(He) died yesterday ... while walking the Kokoda Track," a DFAT spokesman told AAP
on Thursday.
Officials from DFAT and the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby were
providing consular assistance, the spokesman said.
"Importantly the family have asked that their privacy be respected," he said.
The man was reportedly part of a group trek organised for Anzac Day.
Last Friday, 36-year-old Victorian mother Samantha Killen collapsed and died while
walking the track.
The Kokoda Track, an historic trek following the path used by diggers in World War
II, is popular with Australian tourists.
The Kokoda Track or Trail is a single-file foot thoroughfare running 96 kilometres
overland through the Owen Stanley Range in PNG.
