Married man 'lured girlfriend to death'
A married man lured his pregnant girlfriend to an isolated spot and murdered her so
he could stay with his wife, a Sydney judge has been told.
John Kiely SC, for the crown, said Paul James Wilkinson had led his girlfriend Kylie
Labouchardiere to believe he was going to set up house with her in Dubbo.
Mr Kiely was making submissions at the sentencing hearing of Wilkinson, 33, a former
Aboriginal liaison officer with the NSW police force, who has pleaded guilty to
murdering Ms Labouchardiere.
On April 28, 2004, the 23-year-old left her grandmother's place at Erina, on the NSW
Central Coast, with two packed suitcases, having arranged for her furniture to be
sent to Dubbo.
Mr Kiely told the hearing in the NSW Supreme Court that Wilkinson had admitted
meeting his girlfriend at Sydney's Sutherland railway station that night.
The student nurse has not been seen alive since, and her body has never been found.
Mr Kiely said Wilkinson planned to kill his girlfriend, after luring her to an
isolated place, so he could dispose of "his problem" and continue to live with his
wife.
Wilkinson has also pleaded guilty to arson, relating to a fire at the rented house
where he lived with his wife at Picnic Point, in southern Sydney.
Mr Kiely said the motive for the fire had been to cover his tracks in relation to
the murder.
The hearing is continuing before Justice Peter Johnson.
