Macau keen to help Vietnam expand trade ties
Macau (VNA) - The Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Edmund
Ho Hau Wah, said that Macau is willing to help Vietnam discover new economic
and trade ties with Portuguese speaking countries around the world.
Ho Hau Wah stated this during his talks with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in
Macau on April 21.
He warmly welcomed PM Dung on his first visit to Macau, describing it as an
important event and a milestone on the road to friendly and mutually beneficial
cooperation between the region and Vietnam .
PM Dung spoke highly of Macau 's economic performance and pledged to work to
promote friendship and cooperation between both parties in the future.
At the talks, both leaders confirmed they would enhance their collaboration during
the current global financial crisis.
They reached an understanding regarding measures to boost exchanges and contact
between administrative, legislative and judicial agencies as well as mass
organisations at all levels.
They also agreed to broaden bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade,
investment, tourism, education and labour and create the best possible
conditions for businesspeople from Macau and Vietnam to work together to seek out
investment opportunities.
The Vietnamese PM invisted the Macau Special Administrative Region chief to visit
Vietnam .
Earlier in the day, PM Dung attended the Vietnam-Macau Business Forum which was
jointly organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Macau
Committee for Trade and Investment Promotion.
PM Dung said that he regarded Macau as one of China 's fastest developing economic
zones, which acts as a bridge for the mainland's trade and investment with other
countries, including Vietnam .
However, he said that the two way trade value of 35 million USD between
Vietnam-Macau in 2008 and Macau's eight investment projects worth a total 32 million
USD in Vietnam remains far from both sides' full potential.
The Vietnamese PM called on the Vietnamese and Macau business community to step up
cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and tourism, to bring more practical
benefits to both sides and confirmed that he would provide investors from Macau with
the right incentives to do business in Vietnam .
He also told Macau investors that the Vietnamese Government regards tourism as its
spearhead economy for a fast and sustainable development, so the country has
encouraged both local and foreign investors to invest money in this sector.
Following the forum, the Vietnamese leader received the representatives of a number
of large commercial groups in Macau .
Later on in the day, PM Dung and his delegation left Macau, wrapping up a busy trip
during which he attended the Boao Forum for Asia, toured China's Guangdong province,
and made an official visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.-Enditem
