Alleged bikie pair bailed over attack

Two men police claim are linked to Sydney's Comancheros Motorcycle Club have been
granted bail over an alleged home invasion.
George Kozma, 34, of Marrickville, NSW, and Alex Taouil, 33, of Georges Hall, NSW,
are accused of being part of a group of men who tied up and beat Stewart Williams
with a baseball bat in his Elwood apartment earlier this month.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday heard the alleged attackers were armed
with baseball bats, cricket bats and golf clubs, and demanded money.
Mr Williams suffered a fractured nose and bruises to his forehead, thigh, knee and
calf, the court heard.
Detective Senior Constable Dale Hallinan said 59 intelligence reports linked Taouil
to the Comancheros and its president Mick Hawi.
A further 19 intelligence reports linked Kozma to the motorcycle gang, he said.
Det Snr Const Hallinan said the attack was clearly pre-planned and the men had
expected to find a significant amount of money given that they stayed at the Grand
Hyatt for several nights while in Melbourne.
Taouil's lawyer Michael Tovey QC said his client, a private investigator, did not
fit the descriptions Mr Williams gave of the people he saw at his home.
The court heard he was in Melbourne to see a doctor and help with fundraising for a
bushfire relief appeal.
He was found with 10 tickets to a charity bushfire night valued at $1000 each, the
court heard.
Kozma's lawyer Terry Forrest QC said his client had a heart condition which needed
treatment.
Magistrate Amanda Chambers ruled the men were an acceptable risk to be bailed.
She released them on strict conditions including reporting daily to police.
The pair and two co-accused, Terry Najjar, 27, and Bakhousse Hadid, 27, who remain
in custody, are to next appear in court for committal mention on June 30.
