CIRTEF General Assembly opens in Hano

Hanoi (VNA) - The 16 th general assembly of the French-Speaking Radio and Television International Council (CIRTEF) opened in Hanoi on April 18 with the participation of broadcasters from 21 countries in America , Europe, Africa and Indian Ocean region.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan affirmed
that the Vietnamese government highly values the important role of the media,
including radio and television, and creates favourable conditions for them to
develop and integrate into the world.

He expressed his hope that this year's CIRTEF general assembly will work out
strategic visions and practical action plans for the council's activities.

In his opening address, Vu Van Hien, general director of Vietnam Television (VTV)
said the VTV and the Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) are making their all efforts
to raise the quality of their broadcast programmes so as to meet people's
increasing demands.

The two media organisations will also expand their cooperation with international
and prestigious broadcasters, including the CIRTEF.

Since its establishment in 1978, CIRTEF currently has 51 official members and five
associate members. The VTV and VOV were admitted to the organisation in 1981.

The event will last until April 19.-Enditem
