AZERENERGY PRESIDENT GIVES PRESS CONFERENCE

Baku, April 17 (AzerTAc). President of the Azerenergy OJSC Etibar Pirvirdiyev gave a press conference at the YAP headquarters to provide information about actions to ensure energy security of Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2008.
Pirverdiyev noted the socio-economic development strategy initiated by national leader Heydar Aliyev has been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev for the past five years. Six new power electric stations with the capacity of 1000 megawatt have been built.
The Head of State has defined the energy system development strategy until 2015. The program envisages creation of additional power generating capacity of 3000 megawatt.
Pirverdiyev pointed out that a 300-megawatt Sangachal Electric Power Station was brought on line in late 2008. Construction of three stations is underway in the town of Shirvan and Fuzuli and Guba regions.
The most sophisticated technologies and equipment is used in the energy system. The new stations are environmentally friendly.
Pirverdiyev said Azerbaijan not only ensured its energy security but also plays an important role in ensuring regional energy security as well.
