Armed bandits rob Sydney jewellery store

Heavily-armed bandits have staged a brazen daylight robbery at a large jewellery
store in a major Sydney shopping centre.
Witnesses said the robbers, armed with sledgehammers and handguns, fired shots into
the air and held a gun to the head of jewellery store owner David Nader about 11am
(AEST) on Wednesday at Parramatta's Westfield in Sydney's west.
"They put a gun to my head and basically started ramming the store, breaking the
glass and making away with jewellery and watches," Mr Nader told the Nine Network.
"I heard what sounded like two distinct gunshots, I mean there was glass breaking in
the store but I'm almost positive they fired at least two shots."
He said three men were involved in the robbery on level four of the shopping centre.
However, police say it's not clear if shots were fired.
Parramatta Police Inspector Beth Stirton said the robbers were seen running towards
the Great Western Highway.
"The location where they may have entered a vehicle, if they did have a get away
vehicle, would have possibly been up near the Great Western Highway near Church
Street so they ran quite a fair way on foot," Insp Stirton told Macquarie Radio.
