MEETING OF CASPIAN LITTORAL STATES` WORKING GROUPS KICKS OFF IN MOSCOW

Moscow, April 14 (AzerTAc) A meeting of the Caspian littoral states` working groups for defining the Sea`s legal status started today.
The participants are also discussing the preparation for the third summit of the Caspian littoral states.
Azerbaijan is represented at the event by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov.
Russia-based ITAR-TASS news agency quotes Khalaf Khalafov as saying “the upcoming third summit will continue discussion of the draft convention to define the legal status of the Caspian Sea.”
Khalafov described “such meetings as a step towards advancing the Caspian legal status determination.”
According to him, “during every meeting, the parties take certain steps to make their positions closer, but some disputable issues are yet to be solved.”
The Moscow meeting is also expected to focus on development of the region`s transport infrastructure, protection of ecology, especially sturgeon populations, as well as cooperation in energy sphere.
Meanwhile, the third summit of the Caspian littoral states is planned to be held in Baku. The first summit took place in Ashgabat in 2002, and the second in Tehran in 2007.
