Iran-Turkmenistan water consortium planned

Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan, April 12, IRNA - Iran and Turkmenistan are planning to set up a joint water consortium.

Announcing this, deputy energy minister for water and wastewater
affairs, Mohammad Reza Attarzadeh told IRNA before leaving Ashkhabad
that presidents of the two countries held talks on water cooperation
on the sidelines of the ECO Summit.

The Iranian delegation discussed various issues with Turkmen
officials, the most important of which was the establishment of
consortium, he said.

Attarzadeh noted that it was agreed to set up a working committee to
conduct necessary studies for implementing joint water projects and
identify potentials of the Iranian companies.

Iranian companies have high talents in implementing projects such as
drip irrigation and pressure irrigation and canal construction,
Attarzadeh noted.

Joint cultivation and industrial complexes will be set up with the aim
of making optimal use of the border rivers, he said.

Turkmenistan which has some 1,200 kilometers of common borders with
Iran serves as bridge between Central Asian states and Iran.

For this reason, the two countries plan to develop cooperation in the field.
