PROTESTS BY AZERBAIJAN`S DIASPORA ORGANIZATIONS AGAINST POSSIBLE RE-OPENING OF TURKISH-ARMENIAN BORDER UNDERWAY
Baku, April 11 (AzerTAc). Protests by Azerbaijan`s Diaspora organizations against possible re-opening of the border between Turkey and Armenia are underway.
A statement issued by the Congress of Azerbaijanis in Ukraine says the border`s possible re-opening can be a step contradicting interests of the Turkic world.
“The Congress hopes that the Turkish leadership will correctly assess the existing situation and takes steps corresponding to the Turkic world`s interests,” according to the statement.
Sweden-based “For the sake of Azerbaijan” Society sent a letter to Turkey`s Embassy in Stockholm. The letter says “as Azerbaijanis, we express concern over the reports on re-opening of the border between Armenia and Turkey. We think that you will say “no” to opening of the border, as you are aware of the Armenian lies and savageries.”
An appeal sent by the Cultural Center of Azerbaijanis in Georgia to the Turkish President Abdullah Gul notes “highlighting the border`s opening, at the time we expect with hope settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, arouses concern.
We believe that fraternal Turkey will be attentive in the border opening question and, as usual, support Azerbaijan in accordance with the Turkic world`s interests. We are also sure that Turkey will highlight resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and increase its efforts in this issue even more. We hope that Turkey will make its worthy contribution to establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
The Union of Azerbaijan Cultural Centers in Kazakhstan sent a statement to President Abdullah Gul. According to the statement, “Since Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories in the beginning of the 90`s, we have always relied on the support of Turkey in restoration of territorial integrity of our Motherland. The state of Turkey has always regarded the issue one of its foreign policy priorities. We, as Azerbaijani and Turkish communities living in Kazakhstan, believe that the state of Turkey will remain committed to its principles, not take a step against Azerbaijan`s interests and help us restore our Motherlan`s territorial integrity.”
An appeal sent by the Association of Azerbaijan Cultural Centers in Uzbekistan says “We are resolutely against the policy directed to opening of the border between Turkey and Azerbaijan. We hope that the Turkish President, Prime Minister, parliamentarians and the whole society will back up Azerbaijan and demonstrate solidarity with it.”
