ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DETAINED AT MALAYSIA-THAI BORDER
BUKIT KAYU HITAM (Malaysia), April 10 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF)detained 104 illegal immigrants, including six women, two of whom are pregnant, as they were attempting to sneak out of the country along the Malaysia- Thai border here Friday.
GOF 18th Batallion commanding officer Supt Ahmad Razil Yaacob said the
immigrants were detained at about 7.30am (Malaysian time) after they were
spotted hiding in an undergrowth by a GOF patrol team.
He said the immigrants, who are between 17 and 44 years old, were believed
to be Myanmarese.
They were believed to have been working in Sungai Petani in the northern
state of Kedah and were returning to Myanmar for the country's annual
celebration, he told reporters here Friday.
In an unrelated development, he said two Thai nationals were detained after
a GOF team found carcasses of seven civet-cats in a pick-up truck they were
travelling in at a GOF road block here Friday.
He believed the carcasses of the civet-cats were to be smuggled to Thailand.
