PRESIDENT OF UKRAINE MEETS SPEAKER OF AZERBAIJANI PARLIAMENT
Baku, April 10 (AzerTAc). Visiting Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has met here today with Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov.
Here Mr. Yushchenko was also welcomed by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov, Deputy Speaker Valeh Alasgarov, Head of the Milli Majlis`s Administration Safa Mirzayev and other officials.
Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Asadov said friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine are developing successfully. Asadov noted reciprocal visits of the two countries` presidents, meetings held, and documents signed laid groundwork for development of bilateral cooperation. To date, over 100 documents have been signed between the two nations to develop cooperation.
He pointed out there is room to increase trade turnover. According to the speaker, parliaments play a special role in developing bilateral relations. The Azerbaijan-Ukraine interparliamentary group is comprised of 21 MPs. Ogtay Asadov expressed satisfaction with cooperation within the GUAM.
President Yushchenko stressed Azerbaijan-Ukraine cooperation is strategic. Ukrainian leader told of the meetings and discussions held during his trip, adding the joint projects to be realized in the coming years will be useful for both countries. Yushchenko noted Ukraine is interested in developing ties with Azerbaijan even more. According to him, there is potential for expanding cooperation and trade turnover.
