Officials discuss challenges with RoK businesses

HCM City (VNA) - A dialogue between the Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK)
Friendship Association, the HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zone Authority
(HEPZA) and RoK businesses in the city was held on April 8 to discuss and share
difficulties in production and investment amid the global recession.

Head of HEPZA and President of the Friendship Association Vu Van Hoa asked RoK
businesses to be frank in their informing the city of difficulties and obstacles.

He said that Vietnam in general, and HCM City in particular have implemented
policies to support all businesses in Vietnam , including RoK enterprises.
Numerous incentive policies such as tax incentives and bank loan interest
subsidies have been implemented to bolster business in these trying times, he
added.

Hoa urged RoK businesses to work out a mechanism of dialogue and negotiation with
workers through trade unions, and strictly implement the labour law and social
insurance policy.

Three of the 40 RoK businesses operating in the city's 10 EPZs and IZs commented
on their difficulties related to poor infrastructure, slow customs procedures,
capital and exports.
However, almost all the businesses said they will maintain their existing
workforces and noted positive developments in production and trade.

RoK businesses in HCM City 's EPZs and IZs currently employ more than 30,000
workers and invest 120 million USD into production.

Over the past 20 years, the RoK has injected 16.3 billion USD into Vietnam.-Enditem
