AZERBAIJAN-LITHUANIA BUSINESS FORUM LAUNCHED IN BAKU
Baku, April 7 (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum has commenced today in “Crown” hotel. Event is co-organized by the Lithuanian embassy to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Export and Investments Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lithuania.
The forum is being held during Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vygaudas Usackas`s visit to Azerbaijan. The event brought together some 20 Lithuanian and over 30 Azerbaijani businessmen engaged in agriculture, transport, engineering, construction.
Addressing the meeting participants, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Niyazi Safarov briefed about achievements in the field of economy, the various projects and the work done to develop the entrepreneurship area. He noted that in accordance with the WB`s report, Azerbaijan ranks 33rd among 181 countries on improvement of the business milieu. Over the past five years, about 750 thousand job places were opened, over 20 thousand enterprises put into commission in the regions and level of poverty dropped from 46% to 13%, said Deputy Minister.
Mr. Safarov emphasized that decrees of President Ilham Aliyev about privatization of the companies engaged in metallurgy, chemistry, energy, machine-building, transport, communication and other areas gave an impulse to flow of foreign investments to the country.
On Azerbaijan-Lithuania economic relations, Mr. Safarov noted that last year, commodity turnover between the two countries reached 26,3 mln dollars.
Foreign Affairs Minister of Lithuania Vygaudas Usackas stressed the significance of the reciprocal visits and praised rapidly economic development of Azerbaijan. He underlined that his country is ready to further expand relations with Azerbaijan in the fields of economy, policy and culture.
Head of AZPROMO Rahim Huseynov told of prospects created for foreign businessmen, while head of department of Lithuania`s Foreign Affairs Ministry Petras Simelyunas about his country`s economic potential and business opportunities.
