Qashqavi: Iran supports nuclear disarmament worldwide

Tehran, April 7, IRNA - Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi said on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never sought to build a nuclear arsenal and the country poses no threat in this respect.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, he said that the IAEA as well
as US intelligence agencies have confirmed Iran's peaceful nuclear
program.

Nuclear weapon has no place in Iran's defense doctrine, he underlined.

Iran strongly backs the idea of nuclear disarmament worldwide; he said
adding that Iran, in fact, pioneered this idea.

Nuclear weapons are regarded as a serious threat to global security,
Qashqavi said adding that it is not possible to change world public
opinion through propaganda.

"We expect the US, as well as other nuclear powers, to take serious
action towards disarmament and help restore peace and stability
worldwide," he reaffirmed.
