MAHATHIR TO SHARE EXPERIENCE, UNINTERESTED IN POSTS

TAIPING (Malaysia), April 7 (Bernama) -- Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Monday he was prepared to share his experience of running a government with the government led by Prime Minister Najib Razak but added that he would not take up any post.

"No position in the Cabinet, no position at all. I am a retired person, so I
think I should remain retired ... just give them the results of my experience in
running a government," he told a news conference after a meeting and lunch with
government staff, traders and NGO representatives at Kamalodge Resort in this
northern town in the state of Perak.

United Malays National Organisation (Umno) Deputy President Muhyiddin
Yassin, Perak Chief Minister Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Foreign Minister Dr Rais
Yatim were also present at the function.

Dr Mahathir said he hoped that the new Cabinet to be formed soon would
reflect a clean government in which the people could place their trust.

Asked whether he felt it would be appropriate for Umno Youth chief Khairy
Jamaluddin to be appointed to the Cabinet, Dr Mahathir said it was not a matter
for him to decide.

"That is up to Najib. Unfortunately or fortunately, I don't know, but I am
not the prime minister," he said.

Dr Mahathir said he would also criticise the government led by Najib if he
felt that it had made a decision which was bad for the people and country.

He also said that the people of Perak should support the ruling National
Front or Barisan Nasional (BN) government led by Dr Zambry unless the opposition
succeeded in legally establishing that the change of government in Perak on Feb
5 was wrong.

"We have to support, unless of course they can prove legally that it is
wrong. That is a different matter," he said.

Dr Mahathir advised Umno members who had resigned from the party after he
did so in May last year to also rejoin the party.

He said he felt that the BN had a good chance of winning the Bukit Gantang
parliamentary by-election Tuesday.
