UK police quiz boys about brutal attack

Two young boys are being questioned by police in northern England after two other youngsters were brutally beaten and slashed by knives.
A nine-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy were found near Doncaster on Sunday after apparently being tortured with a brick, knife and cigarettes.

Police arrested two other boys aged 10 and 11 within hours of finding the two
injured children and are expected to continue questioning them about the attack on
Monday.
Both the injured boys were being treated in hospital, with the 11-year-old in a
critical condition with serious head injuries.
He had been found partly conscious, covered in blood and mud and wearing only boxer
shorts and socks at the bottom of a steep slope in at disused brick quarry in
Edlington, South Yorkshire.
The nine-year-old, who had been cycling with him before the attack, was found by a
young girl staggering along a nearby street, also covered in blood.
The girl's mum, Lisa Meehan, 29, said the nine-year-old's face was unrecognisable.
"It was mashed," she told The Sun newspaper on Monday.
"His lips were swollen and blue. The blood was coming from a big gash across his head.
"He was cut from head to toe. He was mangled and you couldn't tell the shape of his
face.
"His elbow was hanging out of his skin where they had slashed him.
"He was trying to talk but slurring. He said he couldn't find his friend, that his
friend was lost."
Some media reports said local residents believed the boys had been attacked after
having their mobile phones, trainers and about STG3 ($A6.22) in cash stolen.
The older boy was in a stable but critical condition in hospital on Monday, while
the nine-year-old was having an operation on his injured arm.
Police arrested the 10 and 11 year old boys after finding them in a nearby allotment
on Sunday.
They are expected to ask for more time to question them on Monday while forensic
officers continue to examine the areas where they were found and continue their
search for witnesses to the attack.
