Shipbuilders launch heavy tonnage vessels

Quang Ninh (VNA) - On April 2 alone, two international standard heavy tonnage freighters were launched by the nation's leading shipbuilders under contracts with UK Graig financial group.

The 53,000-tonne AP SVETI VLAHO cargo ship launched by the Ha Long-Quang Ninh
shipbuilding company on the day was the fifth of its kind that the company has
built under a contract with the Graig group.

The ship, designed by the Carlbro company of Denmark has not only met Det Norske
Veritas (DNV) rules and the latest relevant international convention but also
ensured US coastal environment regulations and other requirements for passing Suez
and Panama canals.

Following the AP SVETI VLAHO, the company has signed a contract to build another
53,000 tonne freighter named HLO8, making it a major ship exporter of the nation.


Earlier, the company has succeeded in building heavy tonnage freighters ranging
from 12,500 tonnes to 53,000 tonnes, 1,800 TEU container ships and auto freighters
each capable of carrying 4,900 vehicles aboard.

The Pha Rung Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, headquartered in the northern city
of Haiphong , joined in the wave by launching a 34,000 tonne freighter also
under a contract with the UK Graig financial group.

The Four Diamond ship is the second vessel built by the company for foreign
customers in the last seven months.

The enterprise has managed to provide stable jobs for over 3,500 workers and
engineers despite global economic crisis by investing in technology for building
heavy tonnage ships of up to 53,000 tonnes for exports.

It has so far won a number of contracts that can ensure production for up to
