Thai PM to Attend G20 Summit in Japan

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha will extend ASEAN’s initiative on tackling ocean waste to the G-20 summit in Japan. Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Gen Prayut will attend the 2019 G20 Summit to be held in Osaka, Japan during June 28-29. Gen. Prayut was earlier invited to attend the G20 Summit in 2016 as chair of the Group 77 (G77) and this year, he is invited as chair of ASEAN. The Thai prime minister will boost global confidence on Thailand’s post-election economic policy, and underscore the country’s role as a bridge, linking ASEAN and G20 to put collective effort in fighting against various global challenges such as ocean waste. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia. Four main themes of the 2019 G20 Summit are global economy, trade and investment; innovation (digital economy and AI); addressing inequality and creating global sustainability through participation of all and climate change environment and energy. The G20 Summit is an international economic forum, comprising 19 economies as members, including United Kingdom, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. Collectively, the G20 economies account for around 90% of gross world product and 60% of the world population. (TNA)
