"ONE MALAYSIA" CONCEPT JUST WAY TO UNITY - NAJIB
PUTRAJAYA, April 2 (Bernama) -- The implementation of various programmes in
accordance with the "One Malaysia" concept can unite the people of various
communities in the country in a more just manner, Deputy Prime Minister Najib
Razak said Wednesday.
He said the concept would be implemented in an organised and systematic
manner to ensure that no community was isolated from development of any kind.
Najib said the concept was shored up by two main principles, which were
mutual respect for one another and trust in one another.
"When we have respect for one another, it means we have the open attitude of
appreciating the concept of unity in diversity.
"The trust for one another will not come about all of a sudden. It has to be
developed in an organised and determined way," he said.
Najib, when asked about the Indian community which was said to be
marginalised, said increased financial allocations and aid from the government
were among the measures taken to ensure fairer distribution of resources.
"Specific policies and an increase of allocations to the Indian community,
such as aid to standard type Tamil primary schools as given today are among the
government measures adopted to ensure fairer distribution.
"The aid was approved because I want the economic stimulus package to be
implemented immediately and not because of the by-elections (on April 7)," he
told reporters after distributing the aid from the package here Wednesday.
At the function, 374 Tamil schools in nine states received allocations
totalling RM80 million (US$21.9 million) for infrastructure facilities and
various upgrading works.
