Biodiversity Conference Held in Bangkok

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) -- Thailand hosts the international biological diversity conference, calling for immediate actions to conserve biodiversity and maintain healthy ecosystems. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Wednesday presided over the opening of the three-day forum marking the International Day for Biological Diversity, Her Royal Highness gave her remarks urging for inspirational actions to lead young people into conservation of healthy ecosystems and biological diversity. International environmental experts are discussing ways to promote biodiversity and stop the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources during the conference at CentralWorld. On the agenda, participants seek to raise awareness on healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity that directly affect human well-beings. A recent report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) shows that the world is losing its biological diversity at the fastest rate in the last 10 million years. The Princess also opened an exhibition on Thailand’s efforts to promote biodiversity by 31 organizations and 25 communities around the country. A United Nations statement on the International Day for Biological Diversity calls all governments, businesses and civil society to take urgent action to protect and sustainably manage “the fragile and vital web of life on our one and only planet.” The theme of International Day for Biological Diversity this year is “Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health.” (TNA)
