Baku, 1 April (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani and German business people have come together here to explore ways of boosting bilateral cooperation in various fields, including energy, machinery, trade, transport and food industry.
The event was opened by Head of the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry`s administration Samir Veliyev who informed the German businessmen about business climate in the country. He said the Azeri government had been making “a tremendous work to develop entrepreneurship and investment environment in the country”.
“In 2008 the share of the private sector in the Gross Domestic Product was increased to 85 percent” “Some 11.2 billion dollars were invested in Azerbaijan`s economy last year” said Veliyev. German Ambassador in Baku Per Christopher Stanchina praised Azerbaijan`s business climate as favorable. “Investment opportunities have considerably grew in Azerbaijan thanks to political and economic stability reigning in the oil and gas rich country,” the German Ambassador added. He said Germany is interested in developing hydrocarbon resources of the Caspian and investing in Azerbaijan`s oil and gas sector, adding “the country`s gas reserves will be enough for at least hundred years according to President Ilham Aliyev”.
Per Christopher Stanchina also touched upon last year`s presidential elections and recent nationwide referendum in Azerbaijan, saying “the results once again proved that the people have high confidence and trust in President Ilham Aliyev”.
Margit Steffel, an advisor at the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, said the forum will serve to strengthen the bilateral economic relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.
Anar Guliyev, senior official at the Azerbaijan Export & Investment Promotion Foundation, and Afgan Isayev, Executive Director of Azerbaijan Investment Company, delivered reports on investment, trade and business opportunities in Azerbaijan.
The forum featured bilateral meetings of the Azeri and German businessmen.
