Rudd meeting with PM Brown in London
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has arrived at Number 10 Downing St for a meeting with
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
The pair is expected to discuss the global recession ahead of Thursday's G20 summit
of the world's largest economies, including settling on a restructure of financial
regulatory systems, and the form of the International Monetary Fund.
Mr Brown and Mr Rudd are also expected to discuss their nation's respective
commitments in Afghanistan and climate change.
The two leaders will have a joint press conference following their meeting later
Monday morning (10am local time, 2000 AEDT).
Mr Brown greeted Mr Rudd outside the famous black door of Downing St and the pair
posed for pictures before heading inside.
Mr Rudd, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and US President Barack Obama advocate
further stimulus, while European countries, led by France and Germany, prefer
tighter regulation.
The issue will be discussed at the G20 meeting in London.
Meanwhile, Australian Treasurer Wayne Swan is in Tokyo ahead of the G20 summit to
discuss the impact of the financial crisis on the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr Swan is meeting with Japanese Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano and Bank of Japan
Governor Masaaki Shirakawa, and financial market figures.
In an address to Bloomberg on Monday, Mr Swan talked up his government's stimulus
packages.
"Our decisive domestic stimulus and financial reform measures will produce future
growth and prosperity for our peoples, but only if all the nations of the world -
Japan and Australia included - work together to fight the crisis and build a better
global financial system," he said.
