MALAYSIA-PNG AGREE ON ICT JOINT COMMISSION
KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have
agreed on the formation of a Joint Committee on Information and Communication
Technology (JC-ICT).
This was agreed upon by Malaysia's Science, Technology and Innovation
Minister Dr Maximus Ongkili and PNG Minister for Communication and Information
Patrick Tammur in Port Moresby.
They spoke at a joint news conference after the signing of the Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on ICT at the State Function Room in PNG Parliament,
witnessed by PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.
Dr Ongkili's press secretary Norrizan Abdul Majid, in a statement e-mailed
to Bernama Thursday, said that the joint committee would work towards realising
the aspirations and the intent of the two countries as expressed in the MoU.
The JC-ICT will be co-chaired by PNG's Department of Communication and
Information and Malaysia's Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
The committee is tentatively scheduled to have its inaugural meeting here in
May, to be attended by senior officers from member agencies of the two
countries.
The statement also noted that Dr Ongkili and Tammur had expressed full
satisfaction that Kuala Lumpur and Port Moresby have laid the foundation for
mutual technical cooperation in the field of ICT.
