Senior Russian diplomat, Palestinian representatives discuss restoration of national unity

MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has discussed issues related to restoring Palestinian national unity with Deputy Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC) Talal Naji and member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Maher al-Taher, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday. "[The parties] exchanged views in detail on the issue of restoring Palestinian national unity as an essential condition for realizing the Palestinian people’s aspirations to create their sovereign state based on the 1967 borders," the ministry said. The inter-Palestinian meeting involving the Fatah, Hamas and other movements was held in Moscow on February 11-13. The parties failed to agree on a final statement, with the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements refusing to put their signatures on the document. Read more
