SUDAN DELEGATION TO ATTEND UMNO GENERAL ASSEMBLY

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- A three-member delegation from the ruling Sudan National Congress party will arrive here Wednesday to represent Sudan at the opening ceremony of United Malays National Organization's (Umno) 59th General Assembly.

The delegation will be led by Dr Nafie Ali Nafie, who is the Senior
Assistant to Sudan President and Deputy President of the Sudan National
Congress.

Also in the delegation are Advisor to Sudan President and External
Relations Secretary of the Sudan National Congress, Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail and
the Governor of Khartoum State, Dr Abd Halim Al Muta, afi.

Sudan's Ambassador to Malaysia, Nadir Yousif Eltayeb told Bernama that
their presence at the Umno general assembly would reflect Sudan's close
political and economic ties with Malaysia.

Malaysia is Sudan's second most important economic partner after China, and
also one of its major investor.

Nadir said during their stay in Malaysia until Saturday, the delegation is
also expected to meet several Malaysian leaders.

About 45 parties from overseas have been invited to the Umno general
assembly, as observers.

UMNO is a right-wing party and Malaysia's largest political party; a
founding member of the National Front (Barisan Nasional -BN) coalition, which
has been Malaysia's ruling political party since independence.
