Nation pushes offshore IT services

HCM City (VNA/VNS) - Vietnam , along with Mexico and Poland , have
continued to strengthen their position in offshore IT services against the BRIC (
Brazil , Russia , India and China ) countries, reports the information
technology research and advisory firm Gartner.

The British-based company lists these countries in its list of top 30 countries
for IT offshore services after a survey that was carried out in 72 countries last
year.

A company press release notes that the current economic crisis will see these
countries strive to take advantage of the increased cost optimisation focus of
many organisations.

Ten countries from the Asia-Pacific region were represented in the list of 30
leading countries. These included the undisputed leader in offshore IT services -
India - and the greatest challenger in terms of potential scale - China .

The rest are a mix of "mature environments" that offer limited cost benefits, such
as Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, and emerging countries with a variety of
challenges, but attractive costs , such as Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines,
Thailand and Vietnam.

The top 30 countries for offshore services were rated according to 10 criteria
used to help determine ideal locations for individual organisations: language;
government support; labour pool; infrastructure; educational system; cost;
political and economic environment; cultural compatibility; global and legal
maturity; data and intellectual property security and privacy.-Enditem
