Agribank asked to review development plan

Hanoi (VNA) - Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has asked the Bank for
Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) to conduct a thorough review of its
20-year development plan, to better fulfill implementation of Party resolutions and
government decisions regarding agriculture, rural areas, and farmers.

The party chief issued his request at his working session with Agribank in Hanoi
on March 21, on the occasion of the bank's 21 st anniversary.

He also asked the bank to focus on further improving staff competence, as well as
services, so as to highlight it as a pioneer in servicing farmers and rural areas
with financial services.

Agribank was formerly a government-subsidised bank capitalized at 1.5 trillion VND,
it has now emerged as on the nation's leading commercial banks. The bank's
charter capital now stands at more than 10.7 trillion VND (629 million USD) with
revenues exceeding 21.6 trillion VND (1.27 billion USD).

With an annual mobilized capital growth rate of 30 percent on average per year,
Agribank has managed to mobilise nearly 300 trillion VND, enabling it to provide
loans to as many as 13 million farm households nationwide.-Enditem
