1,000 GRADUATES TO BE APPOINTED CONTRACT TEACHERS
PUTRAJAYA, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry will appoint 1,000 graduates as contract teachers under the contract teaching staff programme, involving an allocation of RM48 million (US$10.97 million) which was announced in the second stimulus package recently.
Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the programme would be opened to all
graduates and the intake was for all school categories such as primary and
secondary schools as well as sports, technical and religious schools.
The offer would be posted on the ministry's website soon, he said in a
statement here Friday.
He said those selected under the programme would start teaching at the
latest by May this year.
At the moment, the ministry was awaiting the terms of service from the
Public Services Department, he said.
"The ministry has made the necessary preparation to ensure that the
programme can be implemented soon," he said.
He said that the education sector was allocated RM2.093 billion of the total
RM60 billion allocation under the mini budget.
Of the amount allocated to the ministry, RM1.949 billion would be for
education development and RM144 million for management expenditure.
Of the education development, RM36.3 million would be for integrated
boarding school, RM1.432 billion to upgrade primary schools, RM128.7 million to
upgrade secondary schools and RM169.6 million for repair and maintenance.
Of the RM144 million management expenditure, RM6 million would be to appoint
contract officers, RM48 million to implement the contract teaching staff
programme, RM40 million for the "smartboards" programme and RM50 million for
co-curriculum, he said.
Hishammuddin also welcomed the statement by Energy, Water and Communications
Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor that the ministry would dispatch 3,000 ICT
graduates to schools which had Internet connectivity to assist in the ministry's
ICT initiative.
"I hope these efforts would help enhance the online teaching and learning
process and create a networking among schools through the Schoolnet platform,"
Hishammuddin said.
This would also help unemployed ICT graduates, he added. (US$1=RM3.65)
