RULERS DISCUSS APPOINTMENT OF JUDGES, EDICT ISSUES

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- The 216th meeting of the Conference of Rulers Thursday discussed, among other things, issues related to "fatwa" (edicts), the position of Islamic colleges and the appointment of judges of the Federal Court and Court of Appeal.

Discussions on the second day today of the two-day meeting also touched on
matters related to the country's defence, security and economy, the Keeper of
the Rulers' Seal, Engku Ibrahim Engku Ngah, said in a statement.

The Malaysian King, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, attended the meeting
Thursday, held at the Istana Negara.

The King was accompanied to the meeting by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad
Badawi.

The Ruler of east coast state of Kelantan, Tuanku Ismail Petra Ibni Almarhum
Sultan Yahya Petra, chaired the meeting.
