HOUSEWIVES ASKED TO JOIN HOME MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- In view of the current economic uncertainty, local women especially housewives are encouraged to participate in Home Management Programme, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen said Thursday.

"By participating in the programme, the women will be trained and guided to
venture into economic activities which can help ease their family's financial
burden," she told reporters after launching the Women Development Department's
logo here.

She said 159 women had benefited from the programme since it was implemented
last year in the states of Selangor, Penang, Sarawak and here, in collaboration
with Karisma Institute.

A total of 1,000 women are expected to be trained under the programme this
year.

Dr Ng said the programme was not only aimed at increasing the women's
monthly income, but also at reducing the country's dependency on foreign
workers.

She said the ministry was also working closely with the Agriculture and
Agro -based Industry Ministry to implement the micro agriculture programme
meant
to increase the women's income.
