Iran calls for joint projects with South Korea in Afghanistan

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister in Asia and Pacific Affairs proposed
that Iran and South Korea execute joint projects in Afghanistan to
establish stability and tranquility there.

According to the report of Iran's embassy in Seoul, Mohammad Mehdi
Akhoundzadeh made the proposal during a meeting with South Korean
Foreign Minister Yu Myung Hwan in Seoul.
He said that Iran and South Korea, with the aim of strengthening and
consolidating stability in Afghanistan, can implement joint economic
plans there.
The Iranian senior diplomat also presented a report on the latest
developments and situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan as well as
achievements of the latest ECO summit in Tehran to the Korean FM.
The two sides also considered ways to develop and expand mutual ties
between Tehran and Seoul in different fields.
Trade exchanges between the two countries reached to around 10 billion
dollars in the year 2008 and is estimated to exceed the figure in 2009.
Yu Myung Hwan, by welcoming Iran's proposals, underlined his
government's intention for cooperation with Iran in all fields related
to expanding bilateral ties and implementing joint projects in
Afghanistan.
Akhoundzadeh arrived in Seoul last Monday accompanying Judiciary Chief
Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi.
