CGPA FOR THE PRIMARY SCHOOL
PUTRAJAYA, March 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia's Education Ministry plans to switch the examination system for Standard One pupils next year with the introduction of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) applied in universities, Director-General of Education Alimuddin Mohd Dom said Tuesday.
He said the pioneer programme on the proposal was carried out in 50 schools
last year and indications were that the switch in the school examination system
could be undertaken.
The education curriculum would be restructured to give emphasis to
creativity among students, strengthening mastery of the English language,
entrepreneurship, history and making the school a lively place for education, he
told reporters after attending a meeting on student indiscipline, here.
Alimuddin said the ministry would not rush into implementing the change and
that roundtables and workshops would be held to obtain the views of academics
and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
"If we find that the change can be effected, we will introduce it in
Standard One and pre-school next year," he said.
He said the Primary School Assessment Examination (UPSR) would not be
abolished but would use the 70:30 formula whereby 30 per cent would be based on
the UPSR examination and 70 per cent on outdoor activities including
school-based examination.
"Evaluation will be based on four elements -- psychometrics, co-curriculum,
school-based examination and examination conducted by the Examinations
Syndicate," he said.
