Greens, govt agree on new IR laws

The Greens say they have reached an agreement with the government on new industrial
relations laws to replace Work Choices.
The government's proposed laws are before the parliament.
Greens industrial relations spokeswoman Rachel Siewert said parents of children with
disabilities would have the right to request flexible working arrangements under the
deal, struck on Tuesday.
Workplace Relations Minister Julia Gillard also agreed to a review of individual
flexibility arrangements, pay equity and the right to request flexibility at work.
There will be a review of employment law services under the Greens deal.
And conscientious objection certificates will be removed.
Senator Siewert said the changes would improve the Fair Work Bill.
"The Greens support the rollback of Work Choices, but the Rudd government's Fair
Work Bill still falls short of the mark," she said.
"With this agreement the Greens have restored some equality to the workplace."
