WITHDRAWAL OF CHICKEN EXTRACT PRODUCTS DOES NOT INVOLVE MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- The withdrawal of two health products
based on chicken extract in the United States does not involve products marketed
in Malaysia, said Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the Brand's Chicken Essence products withdrawn by Syarikat Khong
Guan Corporation in California, were not produced locally but in Thailand
although they had the same brand names.

"The withdrawal of the products had to be made after they failed to comply
to the standards set by the United States' Food Safety and Inspection Service
(FSIS). We do not import chicken essence from abroad as manufacturing is done
locally for the local market," he told reporters at Parliament's lobby Monday.

Besides this, he said, Malaysia also did not import chicken essence with the
the brand names Maylor and Calfarm that are made in China, which also have been
banned by the FSIS.

As such, he said, Malaysian consumers need not worry about consuming chicken
essence products available in the market.
