Competition for capital city’s 2040 general development plan announced

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. As the general plan for the capital city will be ending soon in 2020, the mayor’s office have started to work on drafting a development plan for the city of Ulaanbaatar until 2040. Mayor S.Batbold said, “The biggest challenge is that we aim to develop the city into becoming a multi-centered city. Currently, the city center is only at Baga Toiruu. In our general plan for 2030, we plan to have two centers, one at Baga Toiruu and the other at Yarmag. Eventually, there would be 8 more. On top of that, we also have the satellite towns. By the first quarter of 2019, the Citizens’ Representatives Meeting and the Mayor’s Office will be moving to the new city center.” He continued on saying, “We are used to draft the general plan by forming a working group. For the 2040 plan, however, we will develop it based on suggestions of our citizens. Thus, we are officially announcing the ‘Concept for the 2040 general development plan’ competition. I call on our citizens to actively participate in the competition. Professionals will make the general plan based on the best concepts we receive.” The prize pool for the competition is MNT45 million, and groups and individuals are open to participate. The competition is co-organized by the General architect of Ulaanbaatar city and Urban Planning and Design Institute.
