JAL, ANA flights to avoid 'danger zone' in N. Korea satellite launch
+
TOKYO, March 13 Kyodo -
Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways decided Friday to change certain
international flight routes in early April to avoid what is identified as
''danger areas'' when North Korea launches a ''communications satellite''
rocket.
Flights that will be affected are those connecting Japan and European
countries, as well as Japan and Hawaii. The detour will take place between
April 4 and 8 -- the period when North Korea says the launch will be carried
out.
The airline carriers expect a two to seven-minute delay in each of the flights.
No changes are expected in domestic flight routes.
North Korea has identified two potential ''danger'' areas following its planned
satellite launch -- in a Sea of Japan area off the coast of Akita Prefecture,
and in the Pacific area off the coast of Chiba Prefecture, international
agencies overseeing maritime and aviation affairs said Thursday.
