Police charge lottery vendor, lying about Bt90-million lottery win
SAMUT SAKHON, Sept 10 (TNA) - The police pressed three charges against a lottery vendor, who lied that his customers won a set of the first prize lottery tickets, worth 90 million baht.
Thanawat “Peat” Khamhaengpol, 35 apologized in tears for his lie to Thai people during a press conference on Monday after his arrest.
He confirmed he did it alone with levity and discretion.
He told the police that first, he did it for fun and did not mean to spread the fake news. When, it became viral on social network and appeared on news headlines, he just let it go.
The police charged him for violating the Computer Act, deceiving the public and selling overpriced tickets.
He could be later charged with forging the lottery ticket.
The Government Lottery Office is verifying Thanawat’s tickets, and will submit the result to the police.
Mr Thanawat posted his photo, holding the first-prize winning lottery tickets and shared the story that his customer won a set of the first prize tickets, worth 90 million baht, bought from him through the Line application.
His customer did not show up to receive the tickets but he kept the winning tickets for his customer, who later gave him 100,000 baht in return.
His story drew compliments from the public and his stall at a gas station in Samut Sakhon was packed with customers.
He was arrested on suspicion of doctoring the numbers on the ticket, shown on his photo. (TNA)
