Bodies of five tourists to be identified before repatriation
PHUKET, March 13 (TNA) - Police need to complete identification of the bodies of five tourists retrieved after their tourist boat capsized in the Andaman Sea off this island province after leaving the Similan Islands on Sunday night, before they can be returned to their families.
Pol Col Nithi Banthuwong, chief of the National Police's personal identification agency, said the five bodies will be identified through DNA, teeth and fingerprints as well as autopsy procedures, before the victims are returned to their relatives.
The five bodies - two Austrians, two Swiss and a Japanese - were being kept at Phuket's Vachira Hospital. The body of an Austrian woman was cremated at a Thai buddhist temple in Phuket on Thursday.
Divers are still searching the Andaman Sea for the last remaining missing person, a Thai cook.
A navy helicopter reportedly spotted one body floating in the sea, but it has yet to be recovered. - (TNA)
