MALAYSIA URGED TO INVEST IN INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE

KUALA LUMPUR March 11 (Bernama) -- Investing in information infrastructure
is crucial to raise Malaysia's national productivity and competitive advantage
in the global economy, said Intel Malaysia.

In a statement here Wednesday, its country manager (sales/marketing), Ryaz
Patel, said a more expansive and robust broadband access and usage information
would help make connectivity accessible and affordable to more people.

"The focus on increasing broaband access, especially in sub-urban and rural
areas, will help spur the country's competitive growth and deliver enhanced
social and economic capabilities," he said.

He said countries investing in individual and household broadband access,
through a downturn, as seen in developed countries, would emerge more
competitive, as the population and its businesses became more connected and
informed.

"Intel lauds the government's decision to improve telecommunications
infrastructure, including broadband libraries, broadband community centres as
well as the provision of basic telephony services in 89 districts in rural
areas," he said.
